Seven authentic vintage Airstream trailers not only offer luxury accommodation but provide a truly fantastical experience too. The Grand Daddy team, who are also the visionary owners of the much-awarded Daddy Long Legs Art Hotel, personally sourced the highly collectable items from America. The newly imported vintage Airstreams were then handed over to a talented crew of local artists and designers who made their own creative mark. The result is a collection of individual rooftop suites that plays with the imagination – a concept that is now Cape Town’s newest and most talked about attraction. PINK FLAMINGO
– A Rooftop Cinema with a Spin
As if the trailer park isn’t enough, the rooftop of the Grand Daddy Hotel also boasts South Africa’s first rooftop cinema. Screening classic and cult movies on a weekly basis, this is cinema with a spin. On arrival, you will be asked to choose your intermission refreshments, including old-fashioned hotdogs, candy floss, Eskimo Pie and toffee apples. In winter the Pink Flamingo is entirely waterproofed and heated. During summer, cooling mists take the edge off muggy city evenings. The cinema is also available for a private event.

Th Book Lounge is regar de as san The Book Lounge is r egarded as a sanctuary for Book Lou oo u ung regarded egar de gar s for r any book browser, but for passionate readers it’s paradise! Hidden in the heart of Cape Town’s city bowl this independent book shop boasts two stories of wall-to-wall books with a thrilling collection of rare old quality titles, unusual and exciting imports, and what this store regards as its speciality – local reads. Here, poetry, current affairs and philosophy take top priority in one of the few bookstores I know that refuses to be confined to a boring list of bestsellers. Warm welcoming interiors invite you inside to explore, while a wooden staircase hidden at the back leads you downstairs to a wonderland world of hard and soft covers. Leather couches and comfy armchairs add to its home-like charm, along with great coffee, a chalk-board menu of cakes and muffins, and a soon-tobe-added wine list (yipee). The Book Lounge is certainly a refreshing break from the norm with regular book launches, intriguing guest speakers and Story-Time Saturdays for aspiring under-12’s. I recommend at least two good hours to truly indulge, although immediately on entering you realize that this intimate environment is nothing short of inspiring, so popping in during your lunch break is well worth it. And if that’s not enough to get you there, then maybe it’s appropriate to add that The Book Lounge was recently recognized with a Sefika Award for “Best Independent Bookseller”, received a special award for “Booksellers that went the extra mile” and won “Overall Best Bookshop in the country”. So there you have it!
